Proline

PROLINE is an aromatic non-essential amino acid. Vitamin C is essential for its synthesis into supporting structures of the body. Without it, protein collagen is not properly formed or maintained. Proline is the precursor for hydroxyproline, which the body incorporates into collagen, tendons, ligaments, and the heart muscle. Further supplementation would be indicated in persistent soft tissue strains, healing processes, and the effects of aging.

Other names for proline include: PRO and amino acid P.

Hydroxyproline is a glutamic non-essential amino acid produced during the digestion of proteins, particularly collagens. The synthesis of hydroxyproline in the body is solely from proline and both are found in high concentrations throughout the system with the exception of the cerebrospinal fluid. Research showed that a diet free of this amino acid did not lower body fluid concentrations nor did the elimination of ascorbic acid, its major co-factor, have any effect. Therefore, there is no need for dietary dependence.
