Introduction
The book
Encyclopedia of Latin-American Literature, edited by Verity Smith, and published by Fitzroy Dearborn Publishers, Chicago IL, in 1997, is the source of information for this page. The book, over 900 pages in length, is very comprehensive on its subject. There are personal stories about the successes and hardships of the writers. Also, there are listings of the works of each. As the latter are quite extensive, they are not included on these pages. Information is limited to vital statistics and achievements. For those who are particularly interested in Latin-American writers, we recommend this book for research. Check in your local public library to see if it is included in the collection. It is also available for purchase from various vendors.
