Dear Sirs:
I would like to sincerely congratulate you for your article titled "Living in Monterrey". Being a native of this city, it has been a true delight finally reading an objective and intelligent account about the conditions of living in the city, without your narration having lost its validity after 9 years of having been written.
It does not surprise me, on the other hand, that your inventory of experiences has unleashed indignant responses by offended "regiomontanos". However, and with respect towards my countrymen, I believe that it would be pertinent to reflect thoroughly on the deficiencies that still weigh down many sectors of our society and that are pointed out with absolute honesty in your analysis.
From the business sectors of the city a myth has been promoted loaded with unreal claims about the basis of supposed conditions of economic success and technological and cultural progress, which are quite relative in the best of cases.
I hope that in the future, descriptions such as yours will move us to answers arising from reflection and not from deep-rooted regionalism.

Estimados señores:
Quisiera felicitarlos sinceramente por su artículo titulado "Living in Monterrey". Siendo nativo de esta ciudad, ha resultado un verdadero deleite leer por fin, una crónica objetiva e inteligente sobre las condiciones de vida en la ciudad, sin que su narración haya perdido vigencia tras 9 años de haber sido escrita.
No me sorprende, por otra parte, que su recuento de experiencias haya desatado respuestas indignadas por parte de "regiomontanos" ofendidos. Sin embargo, y con respeto a mis paisanos, creo que sería más pertinente reflexionar detenidamente sobre las deficiencias que agobian aún a muchos sectores de nuestra sociedad, y que son señaladas con absoluta honestidad dentro de su análisis.
Desde los sectores empresariales de la localidad, se ha fomentado una mitología cargada de pretensiones irreales sobre la base de supuestas condiciones de éxito económico y progreso tecnológico y cultural; bastante relativos, en el mejor de los casos.
Espero que un futuro, descripciones como la suya nos muevan a respuestas surgidas de la reflexión, y no del regionalismo visceral.
