Parks That We Have Visited

Over a period of about thirty years, at least one member (usually more) of our family has visited the nature and historical parks and preserves listed below. We have contacted a number of these to obtain lists of fauna and flora to be included in the parks pages of the Science section. Personnel at the parks that have responded have been very cooperative with our project. The links on this page are to parks for which the taxonomy of fauna and flora have been completed. A few parks do not yet have the requested data available. A few more parks to which we have sent requests for information have not responded at all. If your nature park listed below does not have a link and you would like it included, please contact us. Currently, we are including only those parks that we have visited, passed through or near the entrance, and which provide taxonomy information, regardless of type.

One function of these parks is to preserve the fauna and flora within their boundaries. Another is to display their beauty to tourists. Another is to provide recreation. Can these be balanced? There is more to the parks than preservation, sight-seeing, and recreation. They are centres where much learning can take place. We, like many people, have not utilized the learning aspect as much as we could have. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our visits to them, whether for a few hours, for overnight, or for several days. Each park has its own unique characteristics. Before visiting a park, one should do some research to know what may be seen and learned and when is the best time of the year to visit to experience what is desired.
