Silver

SILVER is an element claimed to be beneficial in removing toxins from the body -- which it does, but with dire consequences. The form used for this purpose is known as colloidal silver. It not only kills harmful intestinal bacteria, but the "friendly" forms as well. The most significant side effect is the permanent discoloring of the skin when used often or in large amounts. This condition, known as argyria, turns the skin and internal organs to an ashen-gray color. This is not reversible. Royalty were often called "bluebloods" -- probably for this very reason. Their use of everything silver no doubt caused argyria, but alas, they were rarely sick, while the common people contracted every form of illness that came along. What a price to pay!

To be fair, however, newer methods for obtaining the benefits of silver have virtually eliminated the possibility of argyria. Elecrically-produced colloidal silvers made using D/C current may cause argyria, while the monatomic variety made with A/C high-frequency current does not. There are other forms of colloidal silver. See here for the basic methods of production.

There are many good reference sites on the internet including this one that gives an overall picture of colloidal silver and its benefits.
