Ibn-Yunus (?-1009)

Born in Arabia.
He made and recorded many observations which were superior to those of his predecessors.
He spent much time in determining the direction of Mecca (the qibla).
He tabulated the times of prayer in relation to the Sun's daily motion.
He calculated that the angle between the observed and true horizon to be forty minutes (0°40').
