Thales (ca. 624 BCE - ca. 547 BCE)

Born in Miletus, Asia Minor.
In his study of solar eclipses, he became aware of what today is known as the Saros, whereby a solar eclipse is followed by another in 18 years 11.3 days later.
He was able to predict a solar eclipse in 585 BCE.
