Temperature Scales
- Celsius Scale:
- Celsius Scale was developed by Anders Celsius (1701-1744), a Swede, in 1742. It has also been known as the Centigrade Scale. There are two fixed positions: the freezing point of water (0°C) and its boiling point (100°C). The formula for converting Celsius to Fahrenheit is as follows:
F = 1.8 x C + 32. - Fahrenheit Scale:
- Fahrenheit Scale was developed by Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit (1686-1736), a German physicist, in 1714. There are two fixed positions: the freezing point of water (32°F) and its boiling point (212°F). The formula for converting Fahrenheit to Celsius is as follows:
C = (F - 32) ÷ 1.8.
Note: 1.8 = 9/5
Note: The two scales have a common reading at -40°. This is known as the Schaefer point.
