Alternative Technology
Website: http://www.geocities.com/allenderd/
This is the home page of David Allender, who has recorded his experiences with alternative technology. The farmhouse he chose was described as being in glorious isolation -- meaning that it was two miles from the nearest road and without mains services of any kind. In 1991, the cost of providing mains electricity was estimated at £35,000 and the provision of a telephone £25,000; thus, he did not bother with either! The site not only contains a wealth of information for anyone in similar circumstances, but also links to other sites where help can be found.

Badger Watch
Website: http://www.ruralimages.freeserve.co.uk/Badger%20Watch.htm

You will also see their pigs and sheep, along with anything else they might have! You will also learn about the things you see and have the opportunity to take part in activities. There is an admission fee, and tours are organised from May to September, typically starting around 5:00 pm (a little earlier in September) with the badger watch ending around 10:30 pm. Group sizes are small, but arrangements can often be adapted to suit your requirements.

Futerra
Website: http://www.futerracom.org/
This is both a consultancy and advocacy organisation, working with a range of partners to communicate sustainable development in unique ways. Change will never be effective as long as the majority of people react to messages about sustainable development with confusion, mistrust or dismissiveness. The public sees the environmental movement in stereotype and social causes as the preserve of charities, rather than part of our daily lives. FUTERRA has identified realistic changes to attitude and behaviour that will deliver sustainable development in the UK and has developed a unique approach based on 10 Rules of Sustainable Communication, a model created after consultation with sustainable development practitioners, advertisers, and change managers.

Healthy House

This small, family business was established in 1991 as a result of personal experiences with allergies and chemical sensitivities. Although doctors are now more aware of allergies, they soon realised that there was very little in the way of information or products available to help such people as themselves. Marine Team
Website: http://www.marineteamvideo.com/
This wildlife rescue and rehabilitation project is one that no sane, commercially minded production company would ever undertake -- two years of blood, sweat, tears, and broken cameras, plus an inordinate amount of footage shot to be condensed into one 87-minute film entitled Marine Team. The film focuses on the phenomenon of interaction between humans and animals, and the dedication and skill of those who care for seals, dolphins and other marine mammals. Their life is incredibly precarious -- often a thin line between life and death, and this film reflects the lottery of survival. A powerful combination of humour, fear, joy and pain, Marine Team combines beautiful scenery with natural history, and dramatic action with human interest. It goes from cute fluffy white seal pups in rarely visited awe-inspiring caves, to dolphins stranded in creeks, and much, much, more!

Powerboss
Website: http://www.somar-int.co.uk/
This is an English invention able to reduce the electricity drawn by most refrigeration and motor driven equipment -- by as much as 40%. Applications include air conditioning, conveyors, escalators, pumps, compressors, fans, presses -- indeed most electrical equipment. Motors consume more electricity than everything else combined, yet international bodies calculate that over 50% of drivepower energy could be saved by improved efficiency. Furthermore, government bodies increasingly promote more efficient use of energy and, environmental concerns continue to make headlines. Now, something can be done about these concerns.
