Canada-Mexico Environmental Exchange
Website: http://www.nature.ca/museum/press/2002/pr02-05-24_canmex_e.cfm
This is an article written in 2002 that still has possibilities for those interested. Sponsored by the Canadian Museum of Nature, a group of 14 Mexican environmental education professionals arrived in Canada to embark upon an internationally driven "train the trainer" initiative. The group spent nine days learning about biodiversity conservation and other environmental issues in Ontario and Quebec while visiting museums, schools, parks, ecological-monitoring organizations, and community groups. This visit follows the recent trip to Mexico City in early March by 15 Canadian delegates who studied such issues as water quality, waste management, urban agriculture, ecological monitoring, and sustainable communities. The team also spent two days learning about monarch butterfly conservation, a primary focus of the programme since its creation in 1994.

Canadian Hemp Corporation
Website: http://www.hempcorp.com/
CHC is composed of processors, contractors, and manufacturers of hemp. It was founded in 1998 following five years of intense research into industrial hemp and its more than 25,000 uses (This valuable crop requires no pesticides, needs much less water than traditional crops, is hardier than wheat and easier and more profitable to grow, and is an entirely renewable resource.). Later, another group was formed: the Canadian Hemp Farmers' Association (CHFA), which educates farmers about hemp and helps participating farmers contract acreage to the cultivation of hemp crops. CHC provides the seed and growing technology to its CHFA members, who then sell the harvested seed to CHC, who processes it to oil for marketing world-wide. CHC has 10,000 acres committed (under contract) for hemp cultivation by CHFA members in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. CHC is in a unique position, having secured the exclusive rights to certain technology and premium hemp seed varieties. At its processing plant, CHC currently concentrates on extracting and processing hemp seed oil; hemp fibre manufacturing is a future possibility. The hemp oil is shipped to committed buyers and brokers in the United States and overseas, where it is utilized in a multitude of products. CHC endeavours are supported and guided by an internationally renowned board of advisors with expertise in such fields as agronomy, engineering, plant genetics, research, and the development of biocomposite materials. Ongoing connections and firm partnerships with hemp oil buyers have been made from New Zealand to New Jersey, and many points in between.

EcoDesign Resource Society (EDRS)
Website: http://www.vcn.bc.ca/edrs/
This is an organization which promotes environmentally responsible ("green") design, planning and development practices through research, education, and communication. As a non-profit, non-political, professionally-oriented group, it has been instrumental in promoting more environmentally-responsible development practices in British Columbia. It is solely supported by membership fees and grants from foundations for specific projects. During the first seven years of its existence (since 1992), it operated as a resource centre offering a library of select publications on green design, product literature and samples, as well as publishing a journal and theEcoLines Newsletter. In 1999, in response to the changing terrain of information on green design and development, EDRS chose to shift from an emphasis on assembly, housing, and development of resource materials, to a more interactive form. Current projects include the preparation of a Primer on Green Design for use as a resource tool for schools and as an introduction to green design for the public.
