Traditional education was integrated with daily life. All adults and some older children were the teachers. The principal responsibility for educating the children was taken by the parents, relatives, and elders. It was the elders who kept and transmitted cultural traditions.

Children learned through teaching, discipline, lecturing, and example. Obtairning ritual and cermemonial knowledge was important. A part of this process was oratory.

Children's play and games participated in by both children and adults were important. The children often took part in gender specific games that related to their future adult lives. There was also play that involved the use of toys. Play that involved both children and adults were of a self-testing nature.
