Introduction

My teaching career began in 1949 and concluded in 1990. These pages are recollections of the places where I taught, where I was a student, and the names of students, teachers, and others with whom I came in contact. I no longer have access to my collection of photographs of these people. Thus, everything is written from memory. If anyone sees a spelling error or can fill in any of the few name blanks, please click on Contact Us at the top of any of the pages. From here, you can send a message to us.

I hope that this will bring back some memories of any reader who sees a familiar name, as well as give younger people an idea of changes in a given community. Likewise, I hope that you will take time to let us know. Because my memories are included, there will be information that others may have included. I have both good and not so good memories of my experiences. However, the good memories are very much treasured. I can still see in my mind a picture of every person whose name is listed, including those few whose names I have forgotten.

I started with summer school training, then one year of teaching, followed by one year of normal school. After a few years of teaching, I obtained my Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta through evening credit and summer school. My trail of teaching after graduating from High School in Aylmer, Ontario, was in the public systems of the Canadian provinces of Manitoba, Ontario, and Alberta. After officially retiring in 1985, I taught at a private church school in the U.S. State of Missouri from 1987 to 1990. The only other break from teaching came in the autumn of 1953, when I entered the Canadian Navy.

On July 4, 1964, I married Pamela Land, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Part of our honeymoon was spent in Seattle, Washington, where I was taking library courses at the University of Washington. Places where we have lived after I officially retired were (1) Ingersoll, Ontario; (2) Independence, Missouri; (3) Dallas, Texas; (4) Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico; (5) San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico; and (6) Vancouver, British Columbia. When we were in Texas, Pamela was a nursing director in nursing homes. She also was a case manager for a firm which performed home nursing services to patients living in the poorer sections of Dallas and surrounding area.
